Department of Student Supports
At Prosser, our dedicated team of educators and support staff specializes in serving students with disabilities who have Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and 504 plans. Together, this team brings a combined average of nearly 20 years of experience to our community. Each member possesses a unique area of expertise, backed by an average of six years of higher education and specialized certifications. Our fields of expertise include Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Emotional Disabilities, Learning Specialties, and Bilingualism, alongside a wide range of curriculum-based experiences. Our diverse learning specialists have been on staff at Prosser for an average of more than 10 years. They are assigned to multiple content areas to serve as lead teachers and provide co-teaching support in core classrooms. In these roles, they meet the unique needs of all learners and foster truly inclusive classroom environments.
Teachers of students with disabilities are responsible for evaluating students, creating and monitoring IEPs, and collaborating with administration, staff, and families to fulfill these plans in support of student development and achievement. Our department utilizes a data-driven approach to best support individual student needs while maintaining strict compliance with federal and state special education regulations.
In addition to providing critical feedback and support to every student in their classrooms, these professionals manage individual student caseloads. Each teacher is assigned an average caseload of 12 students. They serve as an essential member of each student's support team, even if they do not teach that student in a classroom during the day. Their primary goals are to provide targeted support, collect progress-monitoring data, identify areas of success, and ensure that individualized recommendations are implemented as efficiently as possible.
Our team of Special Education Classroom Assistants (SECAs) provides additional individualized instructional and behavioral support. Their work ensures that students with diverse learning needs can fully access the curriculum and thrive in the classroom environment.
Additionally, our city-wide clinicians are available at Prosser to provide further support to our students. This team includes school psychologists, social workers, speech and language therapists, nurses, and other specialists.
Ultimately, this professional team is the best resource for providing families with evidence of growth through student work and performance, which serves as our primary source of progress monitoring throughout the learning process.
