It is with the greatest expectations and the highest hopes that we welcome you to Prosser Career Academy for the 2021-2022 school year.
We understand the weight of this moment. This year marks a return to school like no other, one in which many of our students haven’t been in a classroom with their teachers and peers since March 2020; one that happens in the wake of so much loss in our families, neighborhoods and school community; and one that we come to in need of continued compassion and community. That said, it is also a moment from which we look forward, and we are encouraged by what we see.
This year, we will capitalize on all that we have learned in the recent past about teaching and learning, in particular what we have learned about ourselves as educators and, most importantly, what we have learned about our students, their lived experiences and their unbridled potential and drive. We will continue to foster learning environments that enable progress no matter the obstacle; we remain committed to providing students with the physical, emotional and intellectual safety they need to practice, grow, learn and succeed.
Prosser has a long tradition of excellence, and we want present and future students to benefit from this tradition by understanding and appreciating the purpose of education and the need to respect the rights of others. Students: you are a select group chosen to attend this school, and you must remain true to yourselves and focus on your future which is full of possibilities; our efforts will afford you the opportunities, and your efforts will determine how far you progress.
We are mid-cycle in our Continuous Improvement Work Plan and the CIWP focuses on instructional alignment, multi-tiered systems of support and equitable approaches to discipline. These three focus areas are united by Prosser’s commitment to equity for all students. The collective goal is to ensure that all students have access to dynamic classroom instruction, support in their learning and opportunities to grow as individuals, who are critical thinkers with the skills to handle a wide range of ideas, emotions and circumstances. We have the greatest confidence that our students will succeed as a result of our focus on these goals.
Again, we come to this moment having experienced hard times, but we also come to it knowing we are stronger and more independent while having realized how much we appreciate our connectedness. Prosser is a community of teachers and learners on the rise, and we have no doubt it will be a great year.
Please reach out to us if you need any assistance. We are here to help you.
