Science
Welcome to Prosser Science! The instructors in the science department consider scientific thinking to be one of the cornerstones of a quality education. Understanding the scientific process, practicing experimentation, recording observations, and evaluating results are fundamental skills that provide a broad understanding of science and its impact on our society.
COURSE PROGRESSION:

DEPARTMENT EXPECTATIONS - A COMMITMENT TO DISCOVERY:
Success in this laboratory-based science course requires more than just showing up; it requires active intellectual and physical engagement. Because our curriculum is centered on the scientific method and hands-on experimentation, students are expected to adhere to the following standards:
Active Engagement & Work Ethic
Science is a process of trial and error. Students are expected to arrive prepared, remain focused during lectures, and persist through challenging problem-solving sets. Hard work is the baseline requirement. Curiosity and resilience in the face of complex data are essential for growth.
Mandatory Lab Participation & Equipment Use
Safe and effective use of laboratory equipment is a core competency of this course.
- Participation is not optional. Students must actively participate in all set-ups, data collection, and clean-up procedures.
- Safety First: Mastery of equipment handling is required to maintain a safe environment for everyone.
Collaborative Group Work
In the professional scientific world, breakthroughs rarely happen in isolation. Students will be assigned to collaborative teams and are expected to:
- Contribute equitably to all group findings and reports.
- Communicate effectively and respectfully with peers.
- Demonstrate reliability in their shared responsibilities.
