Students are required to take four years of Physical Education (PE) including Driver Education and Health Education. Grades from PE courses are averaged into a student’s final Grade Point Average.

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS:

Ninth Grade

PE I/Health (1 Year)

Students will engage in a variety of physical activities designed to promote and develop lifelong health and skill related fitness. Experiences may include, but are not limited to: fitness based activities, fitness testing, health related concepts, individual and team activities, aquatics, and dance. Students will also engage in a classroom based health course that includes the following units: Body Systems, Drug Awareness (including Life Skills Education), Personal Health and Safety, Mental Health and Nutrition.

                            

Tenth Grade

Personal Fitness and Wellness (1 Semester)

Students will engage in a variety of introductory physical and classroom based learning activities designed to improve and promote all health related components including muscular strength, muscular endurance, cardiovascular endurance, flexibility and body composition. Students will participate in a combination of classroom learning activities designed to teach students about overall wellness and lifetime physical activities designed to improve health related fitness including but not limited to jogging, Pilates, yoga and circuit training. Students will engage in a variety of first aid and CPR learning based activities. Using both classroom activities and hands-on practice, students will be able to respond to most emergency situations and could obtain their CPR certification if desired.   

 

Driver Education/PE II (1 Semester)

Students will engage in a variety of physical activities designed to promote and develop lifelong health and skill related fitness. Experiences may include, but are not limited to: fitness based activities, fitness testing, health related concepts, individual and team activities, aquatics, and dance. Students will also engage in a driver’s education course and obtain a passing grade (60% or higher) as a graduation requirement. Students who wish to obtain their Driver Permit will need to complete 30 hours of classroom instruction and pass this course with a grade of 70% or higher.

 

Eleventh Grade

Team Sports (Recreation)

This course will focus on developing and maintaining health related and skill related fitness through participation in various team games and sports in a recreational setting. Team games and sports may include but are not limited to: Archery, flag football, soccer, ultimate Frisbee, Pickleball, badminton, and volleyball.

 

 

Strength & Conditioning I

Students will learn the fundamentals of strength training and engage in a variety of physical activities designed to promote muscular strength and endurance. Students will participate in an individualized weight training program in combination with alternating days of physical activities designed to promote cardiovascular endurance.

 

Adventure Education I

Students will engage in a variety of adventure education activities and adventure-based learning activities designed to promote teambuilding skills. Students will participate in a variety of problem solving activities, conditioning exercises, or leisure activities and learn various adventure skills including but not limited to: knot safety, climbing, belay techniques, orienteering, fire building, camp/backpack cooking, bicycle maintenance and repair, leisure activity riding, and various indoor team building activities(facilities permitting).

 

Wellness Walking I

This course is an introduction to the life-time wellness activity of walking. It will provide students with an understanding of the importance that nutrition and exercise has on the pursuit of healthy living. Students will log their effort. Various activities are embedded throughout the course which engage the learner and increase participation. 

 

Twelfth Grade    

Individual Sport (1 Semester)

Students will engage in a variety of physical activities designed to promote and develop lifelong health and skill related fitness through participation in individual lifetime physical activities including but not limited to archery, disc golf, golf, bowling, pickleball, badminton, jogging, cornhole, yoga, tennis, and walking. 

 

Strength & Conditioning II (1 Semester)

Students will learn advanced strength training techniques and engage in a variety of physical activities designed to promote muscular strength and endurance. Students will participate in an individualized weight training program in combination with alternating days of physical activities designed to promote cardiovascular endurance and flexibility.

 

Adventure Education II (1 Semester)

Students will continue to expand on their teambuilding skills through engagement in a variety of advanced adventure education activities and adventure-based learning activities. Students will participate in a variety of problem solving activities, conditioning exercises, or leisure activities and learn various adventure skills that will continue to develop the skills students worked on during the introductory course.

 

Wellness Walking II (1 Semester)

This course will further develop students skills around the lifetime wellness activity of walking. It will provide students with an understanding of the importance that nutrition and exercise has on the pursuit of healthy living. Students will log their effort. Various activities are embedded throughout the course which engage the learner and increase participation. Some activities include: heart rate monitoring, exploring various types of clothing and resources for walking in a variety of environments, identifying the benefits of walking, creating SMART goals, and participating in activities that promote walking as a personal and social method of health promotion.
