OneGoal
OneGoal is a three-year post secondary success program designed to support students through their final years of high school and their transition into postsecondary paths. Below is an explanation of what occurs during each year of the program at Prosser Career Academy.
11th Grade - Year 1: Exploration and Growth
During the first year, the focus is on self-discovery and academic preparation. Students begin taking a credit-bearing OneGoal class during their regular school day, led by a teacher known as a Program Director. The primary goal is for students to explore their personal identities, professional aspirations, and strengths.
Throughout this year, students work on their academics by focusing on their GPA and preparing for the ACT. They also begin researching various postsecondary pathways, including two-year colleges, four-year universities, and technical programs. By the end of Year 1, students typically have developed a personal statement and a preliminary list of "best-fit" schools that align with their career goals and academic standing.
12th Grade - Year 2: Application and Decision
In the second year, the program shifts toward the logistical and financial requirements of transitioning out of high school. As seniors, students continue meeting in their daily OneGoal class and the same Program Director, to navigate the college application process. The curriculum guides them through completing college applications, writing supplemental essays, and meeting deadlines.
A significant portion of Year 2 is dedicated to financial literacy and securing funding. Students and their families receive hands-on support in completing the FAFSA and applying for scholarships to make their chosen path affordable. By the end of the year, students compare their financial aid award letters, weigh their options based on personal and professional values, and make a final decision on which postsecondary institution they will attend.
Postsecondary - Year 3: Transition and Persistence
The final year of the program occurs during the student's first year after high school graduation. Unlike the first two years, this phase often involves remote coaching and check-ins rather than a daily classroom setting. OneGoal and the Program Director provide support to help students navigate the period between high school graduation and college enrollment and ensure they successfully attend orientation and register for classes.
Once on campus, students receive guidance on how to build a support network, manage their mental health, and advocate for themselves academically. They work with OneGoal staff and stay in touch with their Program Director to renew their financial aid for the following year and review their academic plans to ensure they are on track to graduate. This bridge year is critical for helping students overcome the social and academic roadblocks that often lead to early college dropout.
