Parents Parent InvolvementCongratulations on your child being accepted at Prosser Career Academy. You should be very proud that out of over 3,000 applicants your son/daughter was one of 370 students accepted to this high school. One of the requirements of your child attending Prosser is the parent's commitment to being involved with their child's success in high school. This includes that parents make sure that their children arrive to school on time each day. Any child who is not in his/her 1st period seat by 8:00 AM is tardy. The attendance office can let a parent know what time the child swiped into the building each morning. Parents must also follow the State and CPS Board requirements regarding attendance. The CPS Board of Ed expects that each child maintain 95% attendance or better in a school year. This means that no child should be absent from school more than nine times a year. By scheduling doctor's appointments and so on on half days and non school days, parents help avoid disruptions to the child's education. Please be aware that any child who reaches 18 unexcused absences in a school year will be sent to adjudication for a truancy hearing. Gangs, drugs, teenage pregnancy, AIDS, hunger, poverty, and homelessness are the harsh realities our students face in today's society. As adults, parents, and leaders we can and should provide positive alternatives and support to the students. We would like to challenge all parents and guardians of Prosser students to become more involved with their child's future by stepping into one of life's most important experiences--EDUCATION. We know that you have a very busy schedule, but you child needs your support and attention. Please join us as we are all charged with the responsibility of guaranteeing OUR children the right of growing up without violence and drugs in their lives. We must show them the road to a positive and productive future by making a COMMITMENT to be an active part of their high school success.
