Automotive Technology

This program is for those interested in occupations related to the automotive service industry. Skills taught are industry-standard, they are based on the Automotive Service Education (ASE) program certification standards administered by the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF). The three courses sequence focuses on the following four NATEF areas: (1) wheels, tires, and suspension; (2) brakes; (3) electrical/electronic systems; and (4) engines.



The shop is fully equipped, the shop even contains their own computer lab for research and projects.

Specifications:

  • As Sophomores the students have the introductory course which provides an orientation to the automotive industry. It includes safety procedures; familiarization with tools and fasteners; wheels and tires, electrical system basics; lubrication and cooling systems. Preventive maintenance is a focus of the course. Awareness of various automotive occupations is also included.

  • As Juniors the students continue to develop skills begun in the first course and the acquisition of new skills. It includes: disc, drum and anti-lock brakes; engine related service and diagnostics. Continue exploration of automotive occupations, as well as general employability skills, is included.

  • As Seniors the students focus of this final course is steering and suspension, computerized diagnostics and repair of electrical/electronic systems as well as systems more closely related to engine performance; such as fuel, air induction, exhaust systems and the ignition system. General employability skills are emphasized, especially those closely related to postsecondary training or employment.

A graduating Senior from the program will be prepared to start work in automotive industry after graduation.
